GREEN Office Building

BCI Builders’ office and warehouse is located in the Tree Circus Center in Scotts Valley. It is the first LEED Certified privately owned commercial building in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties It has earned a silver rating for LEED® certification, from Build It Green, a Berkeley, California non-profit which certified the commercial buildings. It is a two-story, 6,000-square-foot retail and office building with an additional structure behind it on Scotts Valley Drive.

The buildings are owned by Dene and Melodie Bustichi. Dene owns BCI Builders and his wife Melodie runs Scotts Valley Window, Door & Skylight.

Designed from the ground up as a commercial building, it features recycled materials in nearly all the building products.
The lumber is FSC certified from renewable forests. Other features include reflective roofing to reduce heat island effects, solar to provide 50% of all electricity, a water retention system for drainage to replenish the aquifer, and a water harvesting system for roof run off to flush toilets and waterless urinals.

There are many sustainable features incorporated into their new commercial building.

Among them are:

Concrete materials - using fly ash generated by coal-fired power plants
Energy & Water Saving Devices - dual-flush toilets, water-free urinals, recycled irrigation water
Sustainable Harvested Wood - reduce environmental impact
Recycled Construction Materials - reduce environmental impact

The structure houses Bustichi Construction and Scotts Valley Window, Door and Skylight -- as well as rental tenants, who can lease space in 750 and 1,500-foot increments.
